A Tuna Christmas is presented by Mississippi’s oldest community theater group, the Vicksburg Theatre Guild, at the Parkside December 8 – 11.  The plot centers on the annual Christmas Yard Display Contest in Tuna, Texas – the third smallest town in Texas.  It seems that a mysterious “Christmas Phantom” threatens to put an end to Vera Carp’s 14-year reign as winner.  Several subplots offer fun and affectionate satire on Southern life, traditions and attitudes.  The shows start at 7:30 p.m. Thursday – Saturday and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Each night through January 1, 2017 the grounds surrounding McRaven Tour Home will be the setting for a Holiday Walking Spectacular featuring some of your favorite Christmas characters whimsically dancing through the garden.  The grounds will be aglow from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday.  The lights will remain on until 10:00 p.m. Friday – Sunday.  McRaven will be closed on Christmas Day.

This holiday season McRaven is also presenting special tours of the home.  The tours will feature classics of Christmas storytelling with different stories being told throughout the house.  You can enjoy holiday readings from holiday favorites such as A Christmas Story and The Little Match Girl.  Presentations will be at 7:00 and 8:30 p.m. on December 16 – 18, 23, 30 and 31 and January 1.

You are invited to experience the grandeur of Christmas at four of Vicksburg’s most historic homes at the Vicksburg Bed and Breakfast Association’s Vicksburg Holiday Tour of Homes December 9 – 16.  The Baer House (circa 1849 – 1870), McRaven (circa 1797 – 1849), Duff Green Mansion (circa 1856) and the McNutt House (circa 1826) will each be decorated for the season with its own unique theme, special features, refreshments and entertainment.

Now in its 15th year Breakfast with Santa and Magical Adventures in Candyland has become a Vicksburg tradition.  In addition to a delicious McDonald’s breakfast children can experience a magical time in a life-size Candyland, join in reindeer games and enjoy making holiday crafts.  And the guest of honor, Santa Claus, will be there to hear your special Christmas wishes and for photos.  Breakfast with Santa is from 8:00 until 10:00 a.m. on December 10th at the Vicksburg Convention Center.  This is a very busy time of the year for Santa so his time is limited and so are tickets!

On December 10th the magnificent courtroom of the Old Court House Museum will welcome the Confederate Christmas Ball (formerly known as the Balfour Ball).  The ball replicates a grand Christmas ball hosted at the Balfour House on the evening of December 24, 1862.  Just after midnight Confederate Colonel Phillip Fall burst through the door of the mansion to announce that Union troops were just 36 miles north of the city.  Upon hearing the news, General Smith announced loudly, “the ball is at an end!”  If you do not have a period costume you can rent one from the Old Court House or you can just wear your favorite holiday outfit.  The festivities begin at 7:30 p.m.

December 11th will be another very busy day for the jolly old man in red.  Yes, Santa will be making a special appearance at the Outlets at Vicksburg from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.
