There’ll Be Dancing in the Streets –

Vicksburg’s 30th Annual Riverfest Music & Arts Festival

For the past 30 years, Riverfest Music & Arts Festival has signaled the arrival of spring in Vicksburg.  April 7th and 8th, Vicksburg’s historic downtown will be the backdrop for family fun, great music, street performers, fabulous sidewalk sales and an incredible array of arts and crafts.  The kids will love the activities designed to delight them in the Kid’s Zone!

Saturday’s daytime activities begin at 8:00 a.m. so you may want to hit the streets around City Hall to catch the best selection of arts and crafts.  Then head over to the shops and sidewalk sales along Washington Street to find some incredible bargains. You can also enjoy a Vicksburg Farmers Market Special Preview (Farmers Market officially kicks off May 6th). Levee Street Marketplace will also be joining the merchants on Washington Street for a special outdoor market!  The trackless  train will be downtown along with Burt Fleming with Wood B Creations, Ricky Nobile Character Drawings, Percy King's Amazing Animal Presentations, The Antique Tractors and and The Vicksburg Cruisers. Don't miss a great opportunity for the kids at the Meet & Greet with Frank the Camel from 12:30 to 4:00 pm.  There will be food vendors and live entertainment including the Dulcimers, Fit Zumba and GospelFest throughout the day. All daytime activities are free of charge.

Friday night’s lineup starts out with one of Vicksburg’s hometown favorites:  The Chill.  An exciting blend of horns, guitars, percussion and vocal harmony and a combination of fun personalities will get you up and dancing in the streets for sure.  Friday night’s headliner is Mississippi-born Willie Clayton.   Clayton is considered by critics and fans alike to be one of the last great “Soul” men.  The gates open at 6:00 p.m. and admission is $10.

After a day of shopping and seeing the sites in Vicksburg on Saturday get ready some more partying in the streets.  Saturday night’s concert begins with the musical talents of Slap Happy.  Next, Rewind takes the stage performing classic rock, pop, Motown and rhythm and blues.  These great Vicksburg musicians will get the crowd ready for country singer and songwriter Frank Foster.

Foster is a Louisiana native and former oilfield worker.  He first took the stage in 2011 and has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the country charts.  He refuses to let anyone water down his kind of country music.  If he lives it, he writes it.  If he writes it, he sings it.  If he sings it, he believes it.  Frank Foster is a true original.  The gates open at 6:00 p.m. and admission is $10.

You can purchase evening concert tickets online at www.riverfestms.com.  For a list of all of Vicksburg’s spring events just go to our Calendar of Events.  Don’t miss this day of family fun and great entertainment!  Vicksburg – The Key to the South!
