Mardi Gras Vicksburg Style! Let the Good Times Roll!
It seems that Vicksburg is just about the northern most point in Mississippi where there is a vibrant celebration of Mardi Gras. Although we are just a few hours—about 200 miles—north of New Orleans, there just isn’t much celebration north of here. Across the I-20 corridor to our west there are large celebrations throughout northern Louisiana.
The 16th Annual Mardi Gras Parade will begin at 4:00 p.m. in downtown along Washington Street on Saturday, February 10th. Immediately following the parade come join in the 7th Annual Carnaval de Mardi Gras & Gumbo Cook-Off at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center presented by the Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation (VFHP) from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Come celebrate on Crawford Street where the bricks streets will be decked out like New Orleans’ French Quarter. Kids’ activities, live music and a Gumbo Cook-Off are part of the festivities. Don’t forget to get your Hurricane from the food and beverage booth! Several teams will compete for bragging rights and trophies as the Gumbo Cook-off winning krewe.
