Vicksburg is surrounded by lush Southern hardwood forests and oxbow lakes formed by the meandering of the mighty Mississippi River.  Many of these lakes are behind the levee system are inaccessible.  However, the crown jewel of oxbow lakes in the region, Eagle Lake, is located just a few miles northeast Vicksburg.  A relaxing drive along the Yazoo River down Mississippi Hwy 465 will get you there in about 30 minutes.

Outdoor enthusiasts from around the country praise the abundant fishing in the 4,700-acre lake.  Those seeking fun in the sun and water sports are captivated by its natural beauty.  In 1866 the Mississippi River shifted to a more efficient channel and created a natural cutoff called Terrapin Neck.  The former bend in the river soon silted up at either creating Eagle Lake.  Eagle Bend, the original settlement and postal hamlet, was located on the river.

Each year on the Saturday before Memorial Day the residents of Eagle Lake throw a party that is just right for everyone in the family:  Lake Fest at Eagle Lake.  Saturday, May 27th from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. you can enjoy the beauty of the lake while enjoying great music and great company.  There will be live music by Ralph Miller (10:30 – 12:00) and The Chill (1 – 5).  The kids will be amazed with the thrill of the 20-foot Tower of Terror Slide and will enjoy games and fun prizes.
